Support

When I first decided that acting was what I wanted to do I was only fourteen. I had no experience on the business side of acting, I just knew that acting was for me. It was my calling and passion.

The day I decided to tell my parents I wanted to act I was not nervous because I thought my parents would support me all the way. Little did I know, that as time would pass by I would lose support. My parents figured that it was a faze and that after I failed the first time I would give it up, or that I would get bored with it. I didn't though, and that presented a BIG problem. Because my parents actually had to be just as dedicated as I was. They weren't though. They had too many problems to be worrying about instead of my "hobby".

Nine times out of ten, this happens with every child and teen actor that starts out in the business. You have to be ready for it and you have to be ready to make a plan. Either you have to be MORE dedicated or you have to work it out with your parents.

There are many ways to approach this "problem", it just depends on what exactly the problem is. Mine was that my parents didn't have the time or money, others is that they don't want to fork over the money. What ever it is, you need to decide how to work it out. If your parents don't want to fork over the money, make a deal with them. Tell them that you will do whatever you think of in exchange for some acting classes. It doesn't have to be that, but something along the lines of that.

TELL THEM YOU ARE SERIOUS! PROVE IT!!

If your parents just don't think you are serious about it, show them you are! If you stop supporting YOURSELF and you stop BELIEVING in yourself, you will show them they are right, and they aren't! Even though my parents stopped supporting me in many ways, I never gave up! I was still dedicated to acting. Over time I proved my parents wrong, and they started to believe in me more, which led to MORE support! Because they knew I was serious, they had to be also!

I'm still trying to win full support from my parents, but in the mean time, I'm learning everything I can, and I hope you are too! Remember that support takes time, and even though you may not have your parents, there are others that DO support you and that others are going through the same as you. Your not alone!

Confidence

Take the 'T' off of Can't and say 'I can'."-Marva Collins-

One of the keys to success in show biz is confidence. Something a lot of us need to learn. Without confidence it is very hard to overcome everything that life throws at you. Without confidence its more than likely that you will fail. Not to worry though, this article is all about finding you and what your worth!

My teacher always told me that everyone has worth, some you have to dig a little harder. Looking back on that, I can say the same and I want to try my hardest to make you realize how much your worth! EVEN IF I HAVE TO DIG SO DEEP THAT I GET LOST!

If you always see the glass half empty its more than likely that you aren't optimistic and that you lack confidence. There are many things that can make you feel this way. Family, friends, competition. Whatever it may be, realize that if you cant confide in yourself who will? You have to set your own boundaries!

Go to someone you trust and you know very well. It can be a grandparent, a sibling, a friend, whoever and just ask them to write some things about you that makes you special and why they love you. After that write about what you think your best qualities are! NOTHING NEGATIVE!!! It has to be positive! After that, place it somewhere. Where you will see it everyday! Maybe on your bathroom mirror or on your refrigerator, OR maybe you can frame it and stick it up on your bedroom wall. Any way so you can be reminded of who you are and what your worth!
